Easter celebrations for families in need will be made more beautiful

Students and teachers of Debrecen schools operated by the Debrecen District Education Centre collected non-perishable food, sweets and cleaning products for Easter for needy families connected with the Debrecen Charity Board. As a result of the collaboration, more than 200 donation packages were collected. The joint donation handover of the school district centre and the charity board took place at the Kós Károly Art Vocational High School, Technical School and Dormitory on April 14, 2025.

At the event, Director of the Debrecen District Education Centre, László Türk said, “When we collect non-perishable food, cleaning products and sweets, we are not only collecting these three things. If we look deeper into the meaning of these things, we can see that with non-perishable foods we can fill the Easter festive table, with cleaning products we can make the homes of these families more beautiful and cleaner, and with sweets we can bring smiles to the faces of the children living in the families.”

“When we organise a collection before a holiday, we not only give a material gift, but we also mediate through it. I am very proud that all of our institutions stood by the noble cause this time too,” László Türk underlined, then added that the city and the Debrecen Charity Board can count on all of the institutions of the Debrecen School District Centre in every good initiative.

Speaking to students, teachers, and institution leaders, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles emphasised that donating to those in need is a truly honourable gesture that I would like to put on the banner of all institutions. Providing assistance is a very important element of the “cívis” mentality, and it is important that if someone gets into trouble, there is a caring city behind them that they can turn to for help.

The Deputy Mayor drew the attention of the institution leaders to the great role of cooperation in providing assistance and asked them that if they know of a student in difficult circumstances from their environment who needs help and is not yet included in the city’s social system, or among the beneficiaries of the Debrecen Charity Board but is in need of support, they should report this to the Board so that they can benefit from the care. She said that the city is a place of belonging and caring for each other, as is also stated in its motto, “Together, Debrecen!”

President of the Debrecen Charity Board, Edit Bódor recalled that on Palm Sunday, nearly a thousand people were given a cultural package at the city Way of the Cross, which gave them spiritual strength for the holiday, and now, thanks to donations, they can make Easter more beautiful for five hundred people in Debrecen. As she said, “The boxes collected also show that the needy can receive reliable help and support in preparing for the holiday, and all this proves that they are not alone.”

The donations collected under the call will be distributed to those in need by the staff of the Debrecen Charity Board, with the help of the owners of Ördög-Papír Ltd., who regularly support the work of the Board.
