Emerson NI Hosts Interactive Science Festival in Debrecen
Science and innovation took centre stage at the second edition of “We Love STEM Day” Science Festival. Emerson NI, which has been operating in Debrecen for 25 years, opened its doors to more than one thousand students, offering them the chance to explore engineering and technology careers through playful and interactive experiences.
Students attending the event were also able to experiment with a plasma plate, which functions in a similar way to a plasma globe. When touched, the electrical “lightning” follows the movement of the fingers. The glowing discharges visible on the glass surface trace the path of electrical energy and shift in response to touch.
Many of the special devices presented by the Agora Science Centre were created with the help of secondary school students and pupils attending STEM Day had the opportunity to try all of them. Agora and Emerson NI have worked together for years to promote engineering sciences.
“Through this cooperation, engineers, Agora mentors, and now mentors from the University of Debrecen help children create projects based on engineering design and implementation,” highlighted Viktória Borbélyné Bacsó, Managing Director of Agora Science Centre.
As part of the science festival, the technology centre was also opened to students, where children could learn about robotics and programming. “We programmed the robot to move forwards and then turn right, and honestly I find robotics really exciting – I like it very much,” said Fanni Lőrinczfalvi.
Emerson NI’s STEM Day was organised for the second time this year. In 2026, students from 23 schools – more than one thousand young people altogether – took part in the interactive programmes. The aim is to engage the engineers of the future, who are currently still sitting in school classrooms.
“In Hungary, thousands of engineering positions remain unfilled, and I believe there is a huge need for these professions in today’s world. It is clear that this is still a relatively unfamiliar field for many children. And we are not only talking about the world of IT, which already feels closer to them, but also its deeper layers – such as robotics or technical solutions where mechanics and electronics are combined,” stressed Róbert Hosszu, Managing Director at Emerson NI.
Emerson Group has a history spanning several decades in Hungary; the Debrecen operation was launched 25 years ago and today provides employment for thousands of highly qualified workers.
