Every August, the streets of Debrecen bloom with more than just summer heat—they erupt in a kaleidoscope of colour, music, and joy during the Debrecen Flower Festival. 

Behind the dazzling parade floats and floral artistry lies a quieter, more intimate tradition: the community’s hands shaping the magic. One of the most heartwarming traditions of the Debrecen Flower Festival is the opportunity for locals and visitors to actively participate in decorating a flower float before the grand parade.

Participants help place thousands of live flowers—like dahlias, chrysanthemums, and roses—onto the float, contributing to its final artistic form. Strawflowers and live flowers will be provided; however, everyone is also welcome to bring potted plants from their gardens.

By decorating the float, participants become part of the festival’s legacy, adding personal touches to a creation that thousands will admire during the parade.

Those interested can roll up their sleeves and dive into flower arranging workshops at the Kölcsey Centre on August 16 and 17, where they can craft their handmade ornaments to be placed on the flower float, adding a personal touch to our community creation.

The square will be buzzing with life every day, offering a diverse range of entertainment. From ‘The City is Dancing’ Programmes to children’s concerts and surprises, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
