As the traditional opening event of the Flower Carnival festivities, the Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen will once again fill Debrecen’s emblematic venues with classical music this year!
On Friday, August 15, lovers of classical music should not go to sleep too soon, as an all-night musical programme awaits them.
Chamber concerts at several points in the city centre starting at 4:30 p.m.
The chamber formations of the Kodály Philharmonic will be visible and audible at several points in the city centre throughout the evening, with the musical outing starting at 4:30 p.m. with cellist Tibor Bényi on Dósa nádor Square.
Ravel’s Stars: Kodály Philharmonic Concert, 9:00 p.m. at Kossuth Square
The highlight of the Night of the Classics is the Kodály Philharmonic’s grand orchestra concert on the main stage set up on Kossuth Square, where, in tribute to the French composer Maurice Ravel, who was born 150 years ago, you can hear his works Mussorgsky-Ravel: Pictures at an Exhibition and Ravel: Bolero. Dániel Somogyi-Tóth, the Chief Music Director of Debrecen, will conduct the orchestra.

Choral music with the St. Ephrem Male Choir
“A Little Night Music”, 10:15 p.m. in the Memorial Garden behind the Great Church
True to tradition, the evening will end with “A Little Night Music”. For those who are looking for a little choral music, the Saint Ephrem Male Choir will be preparing a real musical treat in the Memorial Garden behind the Great Church immediately after the orchestra concert.

The small concerts are free to attend; tickets for the Kossuth Square orchestra concert cost 3,000 HUF. Listening to the large concert outside the seated auditorium is free of charge.
