A joyful, light-filled spring celebration awaits visitors in Debrecen’s oldest pedestrian street as the city marks the Chinese Lantern Festival, the traditional closing event of the Chinese New Year, which begins on 17 February 2026. On this special occasion, the community comes together to welcome the first full moon of the lunar year with lights, colour and shared experiences.
Following the Year of the Wood Snake, 2026 heralds the Year of the Fire Horse – a symbol of energy, dynamism, courage and the bold pursuit of new paths. This vibrant spirit will define the day’s festivities, inviting all generations to celebrate renewal, cultural exchange and togetherness.
