“Vivaldi & Talamba – 8 seasons” – Concert at Kölcsey Center

Vivaldi's nearly three-hundred-year-old masterpiece, the Four Seasons, has been heard in countless versions as one of the world's best-known classical pieces.  The audience of the Debrecen Spring Festival is now invited to a musical adventure by the Talamba Percussion Group. In addition to the well-known pieces, the formation pairs their own compositions with a similar mood, thus initiating a fruitful dialogue with the Baroque master. Summer of Talamba  guides you to the beach, Autumn is paired with a folk melody, Winter's virtuoso tacts capture the characteristics of the season, so that finally Spring follows the long journey of a drop of water from birth until it reaches the ocean. City Day (Day of Debrecen)

April 11 is Debrecen City Day. Every year on this day, the city celebrates the fact that on April 11, 1693, King Lipót I of Hungary granted Debrecen the charter that declared Debrecen a free royal city. There are special programs on this day, museums exhibition, city guided walks, Modem art center events. More details for 2024 City Day are coming.

National Closing Event of Wunderbar Festival

Culture, Learning, Career - Wunderbar Festival shows why learning German is worthwhile all year round. The national closing event of  Wunderbar Festival will be held in Debrecen on the 5th of April at 2.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. and is open to all interested parties. It is a great opportunity to meet diplomatic missions, companies  leaders, teachers and students. With music and digital elements, the event will be an interesting and interactive programme, where you can find out why German language is important to German, Swiss and Austrian business leaders in Debrecen, and where diplomatic representatives from German-speaking countries will talk about their countries' relations and cooperation with Hungary. Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band Jubilee Concert

On this festive evening, the 12th of April from 7.00 p.m., the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band will perform the best pieces from its colourful repertoire built up over the past 40 years. In addition to early jazz gems and Hungarian songs inspired by American swing, they will also perform their own compositions. The Sounds of the Youth – Brass band concert of Kodály Zoltán Music Secondary School and Music School

Film screening and Discussion at German Cultural Forum

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Holocaust, the German Cultural Forum in Debrecen is launching a long-term awareness-raising programme, the Éva Fahidi Dialogue Programme. The programme's name is linked to Éva Fahidi, a Holocaust survivor from Debrecen and Honorary Citizen of the City of Debrecen. The programme will start on the evening of the 15th of  April with a thematic film, titled The Euphoria of Existence (2019),  screening followed by a discussion. Contributors: Dénes Ludmány – viola / László Laskai – clarinet / Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Dániel Somogyi-Tóth Ticket price: HUF 3500, HUF 2700 About the pieces of music: Rossini's Overture to Vilmos Tell, composed for his last grand opera in 1829, is a twelve-minute piece that depicts life in the Swiss Alps. The piece begins with a dawn sung by five solo cellos, followed by a storm, brass instruments, and a pastoral interlude. The overture ends with a gallop announcing the Swiss patriots' victory over Austrian oppressors. Max Bruch, a late romantic master, is less known in Hungary, except for his violin concerto in G minor. This piece, Op. 88, was written for his son, Max Felix Bruch, and friend Willy Hess. Guest Performance of Former Member of the World-Famous Acapella Group Jānis Ozols

One of the main events of the Debrecen Spring Festival will be an evening entitled "Being a guest at the Kodály Choir". Former member of the world-famous Acapella group Cosmos Jānis Ozols graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm with a degree in choral conducting. As a member of Cosmos, he has worked with world-renowned musicians and bands such as Bobby McFerrin, The Real Group, Take 6, Manhattan Transfer, The Hilliard Ensemble, The New York Voices, Flying Pickets, M-Pact and Icelandic music icon Björk. He has achieved many notable achievements both in his home country and abroad, including the Special Prize for Best Conductor at the 13th International Choir Competition in Barcelona and the Best New Conductor at the 49th International Choir Competition. The Kodály Choir, under the direction of conductor Ozols, will take the audience on a musical journey to the Baltic States on the 19th of  April at 7:00 p.m. in the University of Debrecen's Assembly Hall.
