New Interactive Exhibition on Hunting Opened

At Méliusz Juhász Péter Library, the informative exhibition of Természettár (local environmental amateur community) presents the small and large game that live in Hungary. Among others, visitors for example can find out what kind of footprints a wild animal has.  Hungary has a hundreds of years of hunting tradition, visitors can  get to know this as well. The exhibition also tells about the role that hunting plays in preserving the natural balance, if it takes place within a controlled framework, but also about how much damage poachers cause. In addition, Hungarian specialty falconry and Hungarian hunting dog breeds,  that are considered Hungaricums,  are also presented. Debrecen Art Week Programmes 9-12 May

On the initiative and support of Debrecen Municipality, Debrecen's fine art exhibition spaces, associations, art schools and private individuals will talk about Debrecen's contemporary fine art in the exhibition and alternative spaces of the city centre for four days. Concerts and Exhibitions at Deszka Festival in Debrecen

Debrecen will host one of the biggest theatre events in Hungary this year, the XV Deszka Festival between the 9th and the 18th of May. Mihály Day Spring Fair in Debrecen

Mihály Day Spring  Fair in Debrecen, held in Böszörményi Road this year awaits visitors on the 11th and the 12th of May with around 800-1000 vendors. Sellers come from all over Hungary to the fair, mostly from the county of Hajdú-Bihar, but visitors  can meet sellers from Budapest, Szeged, Békéscsaba, and there will also be Polish and Romanian sellers. There was a wholesale fair in Debrecen in the spring when 200,000 customers visited the fair! A food court will be established at Bólyai Street, featuring five food distribution companies. Other stands will offer delicacies, a grill terrace for authentic Debrecen sausage, retro hamburgers and hot dogs, kürtöskalács (horn cake), strudels, donuts, beer specialties, cheeses, and Hungarian strawberries. Changes in traffic patterns during the spring fair: Vehicular traffic will be prohibited and no waiting will be allowed from 5:30 p.m. on May 10th until 5:00 a.m. on the 13th between Bolyai Street, Böszörményi út and Thomas Mann Street, and Akadémia Street between Böszörményi Road and Kertváros Street. La Dolce Vita Mediterranean Weekend at Debrecen Zoo

Continuing and expanding the tradition started last year, La Dolce Vita Mediterranean Weekend will be held again on the 11th and the 12th of May, bringing the Mediterranean experience to the trees of the Great Forest with the park’s rich citrus and ivy collection, thematic programmes and authentic performers. Last Home Football Match with Family Day on the 12th of May

On Sunday evening at 7.30 p.m. in Nagyerdei Stadium there will be a Loki (Debrecen Football Team) - Fehérvár match, which, depending on the result of Saturday's MTK-Puskás Akadémia meeting, could even influence  qualification for the international cup. During the event the BMW Group Plant Debrecen team is also waiting for visitors and their families with exciting activities at Nagyerdei Stadium. The stadium opens at 6.30 p.m., there will be a skills competition during the break, but from 4.30 p.m. onwards there will be a family day for fans at Red&White, with various games to play until the match starts (Combi Sport Arena, goal gate, face painting, live foosball, subsoccer and much more). There will also be food options available at the event. During the break, the “T-shirt bed” will be activated again, courtesy of MOMED. Series of Programmes for Plant Lovers

Visitors can explore the world of succulent plants and herbariums, but can also taste bread enriched with leaf protein and microalgae, wafers and gummi beans. Every two years, the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO) organises a Plant Theme Day on the 18th of  May. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of plants and plant science for the present and the future. Several countries, including Hungary, have joined the “Fascination of Plants Day” appeal. The Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management of the University of Debrecen organised a series of events from the 14th of May at which  interactive programmes, exhibitions and science lectures are awaiting the interested public. In the lobby of the agricultural campus, two exhibitions were opened,  one on herbaria and the other on succulent plants. The first is a selection of the valuable pressed herbarium of the DE MÉK Department of Applied Plant Biology.
