Day of Hungarian Culture in Csokonai Theatre

The city of Debrecen and the Csokonai National Theater are celebrating the day of Hungarian Culture with a special announcement in 2024. In the evening, they pay tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the National Anthem, with three performances on the 22nd of  January. That evening, the Debrecen theatre pays tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the reform era, with three performances. From 6:00 p.m. the dance performance "Towards wholeness" can be seen in the Zoltán Latinovits Hall of the Csokonai Forum.  The PR-Evolution Debrecen Contemporary Dance Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary with this piece, inspired by Sándor Weöres' work of the same name that raises an eternally actual question revealing the existential restlessness of the speck of dust thrown into the world. The choreography and exciting design language of the performance directed by Zsófia Nemes conveys to us the moment when we arrive at ourselves. Exhibition leading visitors to a strange world opened

The Bényi Gallery prepared the next exhibition season during the holidays, so in January, the works of Emese Bács, a creator well known for her unvarnished honesty, will be displayed on the gallery's walls and exhibition space. The exhibition titled ‘Silently observing, subjectively forming ... ’ was opened on the 18th of January at 6 pm in the Kölcsey Center, where the artist and the guests were greeted by Art Writer Réka Fazakas and Gallery Manager Andrea Szalai. ‘The exhibition titled ‘Silently observing, subjectively forming ... ’, located in the exhibition space of the Bényi Gallery in Debrecen, leads to a strange world. Some of the urban spaces that can be seen in the paintings of Emese Bács are clearly connected to the artist's chosen homeland, Budapest, or her hometown, in Brasov Transylvania. The figures she depicts become more important than depicting urban locations, skylines or Marc Augé's so-called non-places, temporary locations connected to public transport. Debrecen Zoo opens the year with a Family Day

Family Days will be held on 27th and the 28th of January from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two-day program offers young and old alike a great opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives of the birds and their exotic relatives that spend the winter here. In the framework of an interactive zoo pedagogic session, visitors can  learn how to make their garden bird-friendly, how they can make feeders with their own hands for feathered friends, and they can also observe the native birds of the Great Forest together with binoculars.  The House of Knowledge opens its doors, where guests can take part in an owl spit testing and educational sessions organised by the Hortobágy National Park and the Hajdú-Bihar County Food Rescue Association. DVSC legends and Kowalsky and the Vega band are organising a charity soccer gala again in Debrecen

The entire taking of the event will be donated to the Szivárvány az Esőben (Rainbow in the Rain)  Foundation, which helps families in need. DVSC Legends and Kowalsky and the Vega organised their first charity soccer gala in 2019. Festival of Award-winning Films with Famous Experts, Football Legends and a Slam Night

Jazz For You – Carnival Concert under the Enchantment of Jazz

The Steve Jazz Trio is made up of three teachers from the jazz department of the Béla Bartók High School of Music and Dance in Miskolc, who although excel primarily in the jazz genre, are also at home in the field of classical music. Pianist István Bundzik is a member and founder of several jazz formations: Fusio, Junior Art Quartett, Miskolc Dixieland Band, Click Jazz Band, and he tours the world's stages as a permanent piano accompanist of violinist Katica Illényi. Bass player Gyula Horváth, in addition to playing in symphonic and chamber orchestras, is a fan of the jazz genre, so the audience can recognize him mainly from such musical formations. Jazz drummer Gábor Kacsenyák does not stick to a single musical genre either, in addition to running a private drumming school, he also teaches classical percussion in several institutions, and appears on domestic stages in several light music ensembles. The 22nd Masquerade event at Vojtina Puppet Theatre lasts six days

In the special program series, the Theatre shows how winter was once driven away with centuries-old folk traditions and fair comedy. At the event, King Konc, symbolising the carnival, and Voivode Cibere, the symbol of fasting, will clash but visitors can also meet masquerades such as the counting goat, the dancing bear and the carnival bride. At the Puppet Theatre, kindergarten and school groups are received twice a day on weekdays.  On Sunday, the 11st of February from 10 a.m. families can participate in the interactive presentation of the Masquerade.
