Extreme sports are becoming increasingly popular in Debrecen

A week ago, on August 24, the facility manager of Debrecen Extreme Sports Park, Tamás Vígh, announced exciting data on his social media page. As he wrote, they exceeded the 8,565 entries registered this year, which is exactly the same as the number of visitors for the entire year of 2023.

The facility manager indicated at the time that they were only 600 entries away from exceeding the 2024 full-year record. Well, a few days were enough, and according to his indication on August 31, they exceeded 27,000 entries since the opening of DEBEX.

He added, “But what is perhaps an even bigger milestone is that this year, between March and August, we have already exceeded the attendance for the entire year of 2024 (March–November) with more than 9,200 entries!”

This means that the community is constantly growing, and DEBEX has now become not only an extreme sports track but also a real meeting point for all ages.

Tamás Vígh thinks that the first two years were about getting a foothold in the professional sports fields (skateboarding, trials, and BMX). Today, they have reached the point where they are in the national professional leadership of these disciplines, and they maintain a direct and close relationship with the association.

The facility manager, who not only watches these sports from the sidelines but also skateboards himself and enjoys BMX, considers trials to be his main passion and says that this year they set a goal to open up to the public as well.

“With the running bike and pump track competitions, we made the park attractive to those who might never have been here. Many have been returning since then, coming to us for training and development sessions.”

According to plans, the DEBEX is open until November, depending on the weather. From September, they returned to the usual opening hours during the school period: weekdays from 2.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., and on weekends, holidays, and during school breaks, those wishing to do sports are welcome between 8.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m.
