Helping those in need with meals in Debrecen
Every Saturday until spring, a different church and city institution will cook for those in need. This time, the St. Joseph Catholic Kindergarten, Elementary School, Grammar School and Dormitory prepared 500 portions of food.
Those present gave thanks for the food with a joint prayer.
The menu included shepherd’s “tarhonya” (a traditional Hungarian pasta), bread and, of course, a few kind words. Students also helped with the distribution. The “crisis cooking” was started more than ten years ago at the initiative of the Debrecen-Great Church Reformed Church Parish.
This time, the St. Joseph Catholic Kindergarten, Elementary School, Grammar School and Dormitory prepared 500 portions of food, which were distributed at 3 locations.
“The divine commandment to love your neighbor is not a poster text, it is not some abstract thing, but this helping love must be shown in everyday life,” emphasized Director Zoltán Bódis.
Thanks to the initiative – similarly to previous years – every Saturday from November to April, congregations, church organizations, and institutions will cook food for those in need.
