Hundreds of Long‑Serving Blood Donors Honored in Debrecen
On Hungarian Blood Donors’ Day, the Debrecen Regional Organization of the Hungarian Red Cross held a ceremony at the Csapókert Community House on November 28, 2025.
Among those recognized were donors who had given blood more than 100 times. The event highlighted the voluntarism and selflessness of blood donation—an act through which donors help strangers anonymously, without expecting anything in return. Nearly 300 dedicated blood donors were honored, including István Zsolt Zoványi, who has already donated blood 160 times.
At the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles emphasized that blood donors play an indispensable role in patient care.
“In the event of an accident or illness, a large amount of blood is often required. This is why maintaining a continuous blood supply is so important. A single donation can save the lives of three people. It is therefore essential that we celebrate those who voluntarily and anonymously undertake this noble activity,” she stated.
Local government representative Edina Szilágyi also greeted the blood donors at the event.
