The Constituent Synod held in the Great Church of Debrecen on 22 May 2009 adopted the Constitution of the Hungarian Reformed Church. With this decision, the Hungarian Reformed Churches of the Carpathian Basin confirmed their unity and declared their unity under constitutional law. The General Convention, a consultative and proposing body of the Carpatho-Basin Reformed Churches, was established in 2004 and has continued to function as part of the Hungarian Reformed Church since 2009.

On Saturday, 24 May, there will be a number of activities to celebrate Unity Day. There will be events on Kossuth Square, in the Great Church, the Small Church, the Reformed College, the Memorial Garden and Déri Square.

The Main Stage on Kossuth Square will be the main venue for Unity Day. The festive service will take place there starting at 2:0 p.m., while concerts and cultural performances will take place in the morning. The programme for Kossuth Square can be found here.

The stage on Déri Square is especially for young people. 2025 is the Year of Youth Ministry in the Reformed Church, and will feature student movements, communities from across the borders and beyond, and popular music performances. Programmes  will start here from 9:00 a.m.

The Reformed Great Church is an iconic building in Debrecen. A Women’s Union conference will be held here in the morning of Unity Day, and in the afternoon the open-air worship service will be shown on projectors. The conference programme is available here.

The Reformed Church of Debrecen will host a concert of Reformed choirs from all over the Carpathian Basin. The choirs will offer a very diverse and high-quality musical experience to the audience. You can find the list of choirs and the programme here.

The exhibitions of the Museum and the Great Library of the Reformed College of Debrecen can be visited free of charge on Unity Day between 9.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. The “Friends of the College” are holding their general meeting on the same day, and are also organising a number of additional activities, which you can find more information about here.

The Unity Day Saturday programme will start in the Memorial Garden between the Great Church and the College building with a symbolic bread-baking ceremony, and the rest of the day will be for the children. Details can be found here.

The “Market of Possibilities” will showcase Reformed values that enrich the church in the fields of culture, gastronomy, event organisation, and the stands in the centre of Debrecen will present educational, social and health institutions, as well as press organisations, alongside church bodies. The list of organisations and farmers you can meet at Unity Day is available here.
