This year, the assistant professor of the Department of Molecular and Nanopharmaceutics of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Debrecen received the Danubius Young Scientist Award 2024 from Hungary. Ágnes Rusznyák primarily researches the cellular effects of cyclodextrins and their ability to carry RNA. Her results were published in several scientific journals.

The Danubius Young Scientist Award 2024 was presented in Krems, Austria, as part of the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Danube Rectors’ Conference. The award was founded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe and is awarded every year to an outstanding young researcher from the 14 countries participating in the EU Danube Region Strategy. The purpose of the award is to highlight the work and talent of young professionals and to increase the visibility of the region’s scientific community.

This year, out of 140 candidates, based on the evaluation of the professional jury, the award from Hungary was won by Ágnes Rusznyák, assistant professor at the Department of Molecular and Nanopharmaceutics of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Debrecen.

Ágnes Rusznyák’s research mainly focuses on investigating the cellular effects of cyclodextrins and their ability to carry RNA. In addition to all this, she also deals with the formulation and testing of nanoparticles with different active ingredients and innovative buccal patches.

“This recognition was a great pleasure for me. It is almost unfathomable that my work is recognized at the European level. I framed the diploma I received in Austria and put it on the wall at home, “ she said.

So far, the young researcher is the first author of three scientific publications in prestigious international journals and co-author of sixteen papers. There have been 432 independent references to these communications, with an overall impact factor of 82.8.

Ágnes Rusznyák regularly participates in various international and national professional congresses, where she presents her research results. The young pharmacist is also involved in the practical training of Hungarian and foreign pharmacy students, and supervises the work of several students as a subject leader. She is also involved in talent management for younger pharmacists, mentoring the Sántha Kálmán College of Pharmacy.
