“Move, Debrecen!” Has a New Indoor Community Venue

From now on, those longing for exercise are also welcome at the building of the DSZC Beregszászi Pál Technical College.

The 21st indoor venue of the “Move, Debrecen!” program has opened at the Pál Beregszászi Technical College, part of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center.

From February 9, 2026, seated gymnastics sessions will be available on Monday and Wednesday afternoons on Jerikó Street.

At the press conference, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa highlighted that residents have grown to appreciate the “Move, Debrecen!” initiative, as shown by more than 280,000 recorded participations. He underlined that regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways to maintain good health. At the same time, the program strengthens community ties, supporting mental well‑being as well. The aim is for Debrecen residents to take full advantage of these opportunities and for the newly opened venues to become lively, well‑attended spaces.

Csaba Papp, Director of Move, Debrecen!, emphasized that their core commitment is to make the program accessible in every part of Debrecen. Participants can now be active at 21 locations, with options that also accommodate special needs. The new venue expands opportunities for those interested in seated gymnastics. He noted that this form of exercise is gentle on the joints, making it particularly valuable for older adults, while still providing meaningful strength development and a noticeable boost in overall well‑being.

Zsolt Tirpák, Chancellor of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, highlighted that their institutions not only carry out educational work but also consider social responsibility a key part of their mission. He stressed the importance of schools opening their spaces to the wider community, as this creates opportunities for healthy activities and community building while allowing residents to become more familiar with the institutions themselves. He noted that this is not their first such initiative: a similar venue had already been opened at the Bethlen Gábor Technical School of Economics and Dormitory.

The “Move, Debrecen!” health initiative was launched in 2021 to encourage residents to replace sedentary habits with more active daily routines. With the Pál Beregszászi Technical College now joining the program, the initiative takes another step toward bringing sport and shared community experiences within easy reach for everyone in Debrecen.
