“Move, Debrecen!” Expands with a 22nd Location
Debrecen’s community exercise programme continues to grow stronger: with the joining of the DSZC Creative Technical School, the Move, Debrecen! initiative now welcomes participants at 22 indoor venues.
The initiative, launched five years ago, has so far engaged more than 285,000 people. At the new venue, those wishing to keep fit can take part in pilates sessions.
Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasised at the press conference that the opening of the 22nd venue is clear feedback that the people of Debrecen value community-based forms of exercise. He highlighted that over the past years more than 285,000 people have been reached, proving the legitimacy and success of the programme. He also pointed out that the evening pilates class is particularly convenient for residents of the Újkert district and the surrounding area, as it is a popular and well-liked form of exercise.
Csaba Papp, Founding member and Head of the Move, Debrecen! initiative, explained that the programme, now in its fifth year, continuously adapts to public demand. He stressed that new venues are opened where there is a clear need for them. He also noted that cooperation with the School District Centre and the Vocational Training Centre provides a stable foundation for expanding the programme, meaning that exercise opportunities are now available throughout the city.
Enikő Kovácsné Győrfi, Principal of the DSZC Creative Technical School, highlighted that although promoting a healthy lifestyle is already part of everyday school life, the programme gives the institution a new, community-oriented profile. She underlined that the school’s sports hall will now serve not only pupils, but also parents, friends and residents of the district. She added that in the fast-paced world of the 21st century, it is particularly important to devote time to oneself and to recharge mentally and physically—an essential value for young people entering the future labour market.
From 23 February, free pilates classes will be held at the DSZC Creative Technical School every Monday between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm, welcoming all those interested.
