Move, Debrecen! Opens 23rd Indoor Venue
Within a single week, the second Move, Debrecen! indoor programme venue has opened in the city. Today, Lilla Square Primary School joined the initiative and made its sports hall available to those wishing to take part in community-based physical activities. The aim of the expansion is to provide directly accessible, well-equipped exercise facilities for those who were previously unable to join the programme.
At today’s press briefing, Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasised that the choice of venue was based on responding to local demand. Although there were opportunities in the wider area, until now there had been no access to Move, Debrecen! programmes in Hatvan utcai kert. He added that it had been the right decision, as local residents made full use of the free exercise opportunity from the very first session. He also highlighted that the budget adopted today ensures the continued operation of the programme, and expressed his hope that as many people as possible will take advantage of the free exercise opportunities.
Csaba Papp, founding member and professional director of the initiative, said that Pilates classes will be launched at Lilla Square on Thursdays between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm. The timing was deliberately chosen so that parents and even teachers could take part. He stressed that Pilates effectively supports posture improvement, muscle stretching and relaxation, particularly for those who carry out sedentary work or are exposed to physical strain.
Katalin Pethő, Headteacher of Lilla Square Primary School, highlighted that they were pleased to accept the invitation, as promoting a healthy lifestyle is of paramount importance for every school. Through this initiative, they are able not only to foster a love of physical activity among pupils, but also to extend this opportunity to parents and local residents.
Launched five years ago, the Move, Debrecen! initiative, has so far engaged more than 285,000 people across the city.
