One of Debrecen’s most beautiful apartment buildings will soon shine in its former glory
The first supported investment of the municipality’s Built Heritage Renovation Program is progressing even better than planned. The complete exterior renovation of the almost hundred-year-old, locally protected Szent Anna Street apartment building could be completed as early as this year.
Currently, renovation is being carried out on the Szent Anna Street side of the neo-baroque building built in 1926-27, which has not undergone significant renovation for decades. In the first tender announced by the municipality’s Built Heritage Renovation Program last year, the apartment building won a grant of HUF 200 million for the exterior renovation, which covers half of the costs.
Thanks to the collaboration, this gem of the city’s built heritage can be renovated in a worthy manner.
“The contractor has lined up serious professionals, and supported by thorough expert preparatory work, they managed to go through every element point by point. What is at least as important is the cooperation of the condominium itself. The managerial attitude of the condominium joint representation was very important for this work to progress at this pace,” chief architect of Debrecen, István Gábor, emphasized.
The roof, facade, and windows on the northern and eastern sides of the condominium at 10-12 Szent Anna Street have almost completely been renovated, and thus the almost hundred-year-old, locally protected building is starting to regain its original beauty.
According to the contract, the first investment of the Debrecen municipality’s Built Heritage Renovation Program should be completed by May 2026, but the work is progressing so well that it could be finished this year.
