The county ambulance organisation of the National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) organised a celebration on the occasion of Ambulance Day at the Debrecen City Hall on June 2, 2025.

Three million 400 thousand kilometres traveled on the county roads, 121 thousand hours spent in an ambulance, participation in the care of more than 70 thousand people, and 39 thousand patients in the county emergency care system – all these are the results of the Hajdú-Bihar ambulance service last year in numbers. Fast and professional help can save lives.

Tibor Dicső joined the ambulance service in 1979, worked as an ambulance nurse in Debrecen from 2001, and recently retired. He was awarded a certificate of recognition for his conscientious work. “We meet all kinds of patients, we help them recover, and we help them get admitted. All this so that they arrive at the given institution in a stable condition,” retired ambulance nurse Tibor Dicső said.

There are fifteen ambulance stations and two rescue points in Hajdú-Bihar, with eleven duty stations and more than fifty ambulances. Regional director of the National Ambulance Service Ferenc Korcsmáros said that last year was an outstanding year in the life of the county ambulance service, with high case numbers and many kilometers traveled.

“We believe that both in terms of the vehicle fleet and the ambulance station network, the county is well covered, and the people living here receive quality care. However, with such significant use, our medical technology equipment and vehicles are depreciating, so modernisation and replacement will be necessary in the coming years,” he underlined.

At the ceremony, director of the Debrecen Primary Care and Health Development Institute, Csaba Papp, also received the certificate certifying that the Health Development Centre on Szent Anna Street also became a Life Saving Point.

According to Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, the employees of the local ambulance station form an excellent community. Comrades work here who generate cooperation, and companies also support their work.

“They do excellent work. Whenever they are needed, the ambulance staff are always there and perform their tasks with heart and soul. In addition, opportunities for care and cooperation can also be created with them. This is why we have been able to jointly establish eighteen Life Saving Points in Debrecen so far, which justly demonstrates the city’s intention to care,” she noted.

At the ceremony, the ambulance workers who have done outstanding work received awards. On this occasion, the life-saving device, the purchase of which was also contributed to by the National Ambulance Service Foundation, was also handed over.

The event was attended and welcomed by Member of Parliament László Tasó, Medical Director of the OMSZ György Pápai, and Regional Director of OMSZ Ferenc Korcsmáros. Vice President of the Hajdú-Bihar County Assembly László Bulcsu was also present.
