Press release regarding the reconstruction of the Debrecen-Nagykereki railway line 106
Debrecen and the Debrecen agglomeration have been affected by numerous railway developments in recent years. It is worth examining the developments affecting Debrecen in a comprehensive manner and not making erroneous statements and conclusions by picking out a single detail.
One of the largest investments in recent years is the development of the Debrecen-Balmazújváros railway line 108, which is nearing completion. The other significant development is the development of the main railway line 100, the implementation of which has been decided by the government.
Another key investment in the coming years will be the redesign of the railway line 106 (Nagykereki line) and its implementation on a new route. From the perspective of Debrecen, the relocation to the new route is of particular importance because it currently hinders the development of Debrecen Airport. The design of the Debrecen Airport runway, which affects railway line 106, is in progress.
Years ago, we started preparing the new route of railway line 106, taking into account regional considerations, and the relevant study plans have been completed. The study plan for the new route proposes the connection of railway lines 106 and 101, thanks to which, after 100 years, a direct high-speed rail connection can be established between Debrecen and Nagyvárad (Oradea). This route plan truly establishes the future of railway line 106.
The traffic between the two major cities will be able to ensure adequate passenger volume on the affected section.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Transport, the reconstruction of line 106 will therefore be a priority task in the coming years so that the line will not be discontinued but will be rebuilt on a new route, which will also provide a higher level of connection in the direction of Mikepércs, Sáránd, and Derecske.
During the suspension of the railway line, replacement buses will assist with transportation.
