Sensirion might bring Swiss technologies to Debrecen

László Ábrahám, one of the managing directors of Sensirion Hungary Kft., told local TV that the logistics centre was handed over in October and is now being put into use. The 7,000 square metre site in Debrecen will be taken over in the spring of next year. He added that they started this activity in 2020, first still in his apartment, then in rented offices, and then the 5,000 square metre factory was set up. Hungarian workers, led by the engineering department, produced products of such quality and cost-efficiency that the parent company decided to continue this investment and to do the second phase, which consists of a logistics part and a production hall part.

In addition to the classic flow meters manufactured for industrial use and used in ventilators, automotive sensors have emerged, mainly measuring temperature and humidity. In addition, the company now also produces environmental sensors that detect methane in gas fields and oil wells. To prevent further growth of the ozone hole, the US uses a shielding gas that does not harm the ozone hole but is flammable. It must be possible to detect this in tiny quantities, and a sensor for this is manufactured in Debrecen, tens of thousands of which have already been shipped to America.

Krisztián Magyar, the company’s other managing director, emphasized that the number of successful audits and inspections perfectly reflects the results of the past years.

“Here, we have to think of audits that our customers conduct to make sure that the conditions are in place and that our company has the performance to manufacture and deliver these products reliably and with high quality,” he added.

He stressed that the logistics centre will contribute significantly to this, providing solutions that will support growth. They also needed to expand capacity to accommodate future technologies with even higher added value, enabling the company to produce high-quality products.

He said a complete technology plant will also start operations in addition to the logistics centre. This is planned for next spring, and from then on, the critical task for them is to fill the building with production to ensure this growth. In the future, technologies currently used in Switzerland could also be brought to Debrecen, he stressed.

László Ábrahám talked about the importance of more women working in engineering. He believes it is vital that more women choose engineering as the gender ratio in engineering is currently 90 percent male and 10 percent female. He believes that if the proportion of women in engineering rose to 50 percent, the current shortage of engineers would almost disappear.

Krisztán Magyar concluded the interview by saying that at Sensirion, corporate culture is something they want to use to differentiate themselves from other companies so that employees want to choose them. In addition to company culture, they aim to create a safe, liveable, family-oriented and environmentally friendly workplace.
