Swimming lessons were held for children with special educational needs
The Debrecen Sportcentrum Public Non-profit Ltd., in cooperation with the DSI Debrecen Swimming Department, under the leadership of Dr. Brigitta Tóthné Nagy, held swimming lessons for 15 children with special educational needs in the Debrecen Sports Swimming Pool on 16 May 2025.
The participants were divided into three groups—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—and learned the basic elements of swimming and practised swimming strokes and techniques. The aim of the exercises was to master the movement sequences that would help children stay in deeper water.
Movements performed in water have a positive impact on the development of people with concentration difficulties, hyperkinetic, impulsive symptoms, autism, obesity, rare diseases (DMD, DDX3X), mutism, visual impairment, mobility impairment, and on the physical and mental health of the body.
Three children’s swimmers from DSI Debrecen attended the event. Thanks to their preparation, they are entitled to participate in the domestic qualification competitions organised by the Hungarian Paralympic Committee.
The event took place within the framework of the international application with the identifier ERASMUS-SPORT-2023-SCP, as part of which people with disabilities can practice sports free of charge at various sports service providers, coordinated by the municipality. The programme is open, the organisers are looking forward to applications from organisations of people with disabilities and sports service providers at sport@ph.debrecen.hu.
