The popular outdoor book cabinet in the Ady Park has been renovated

Thanks to the Rotary Club Debrecen and the Rotaract Club Debrecen Főnix, the popular outdoor book cabinet in Ady Park has been renovated and is once again available to readers.

The book cabinet was filled with hundreds of books by nearly fifty volunteers on April 29, 2025.

At the event, Deputy Mayor István Puskás highlighted that the renewal of the book cabinet was the result of genuine teamwork, expressing gratitude to everyone who participated in its modernisation.

He remarked that during the weeks and months when the cabinet was unavailable, it became clear how much it meant to the people.

“Literature and reading, as long as they exist, are among the most natural things in the world. When they suddenly disappear, we realise that something important is missing from our lives,” he stated.

He expressed hope that this beautiful example of the book’s and literature’s ability to spread and create community will continue to grow in the city, strengthening the circle and community of those dedicated to books.
