The Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen has been equipped with new X‑ray devices

Thanks to better quality, real-time X-ray images, the new equipment that was recently delivered to the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen enables more accurate and safer surgical interventions. The two modern C-arm X-ray machines, operating with lower radiation exposure, will operate on the Kenézy Gyula Campus, in the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic, and in the central operating room.

The C-arm X-ray equipment is primarily used in a wide range of interventional radiological interventions in the fields of traumatology and orthopedics (correction of displaced bone fractures, checking the position of implants), urology (stone removal and other urological surgeries), and neurosurgery (primarily spinal surgical procedures), reported unideb.hu.

“The acquisition of the new X-ray equipment is a significant step forward in the development of the diagnostic and surgical equipment of the Clinical Center. The investment serves both the further improvement of the standard of patient care and the long-term goals of institutional modernization,” said Professor Zoltán Szabó, president of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen.

The device consists of a C-shaped arm, i.e., the X-ray machine, and a monitor cart, which houses the monitor necessary for image display and the equipment necessary for recording archiving. The equipment is a real-time imaging system that allows the doctor performing the surgery to follow the live X-ray image during the intervention. Thanks to this, the surgical steps can be planned and executed with greater precision, which significantly increases the safety and efficiency of the procedure. The imaging system is rotatable and mobile and can be easily moved around the operating table.

The Clinical Center’s two new X-ray devices will soon be put into operation in the central operating room of the Kenézy Gyula Campus and in the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic.

“The acquisition of the new devices is part of a high-level, planned modernization that meets the challenges of the time. In the central operating room of the Kenézy Gyula Campus, the C-arm image intensifier is primarily used by the orthopedic and traumatology, neurosurgery, and urology professions. The modern device allows for real-time monitoring of interventions, thereby contributing to achieving the best possible functional and anatomical results in surgical interventions,” emphasized Professor Béla Fülesdi, Director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen.

The modern equipment operates with lower radiation exposure, which is of paramount importance not only for the safety of patients but also for the safety of healthcare personnel. The new devices can be connected to the IT system, so the images taken in the operating room can be uploaded to the digital archive, and the patient does not need to be sent for another X-ray examination.

“The vast majority of surgeries in the orthopedic and traumatology profession are interventions affecting the skeletal system. In recent years, we have been placing increasing emphasis on the protection of soft tissues, which enables early rehabilitation. This assumes that, with the help of X-ray control, we can safely insert screws and implants with much less exposure than before. We check the position of the implants from several directions, which is why these devices are indispensable during interventions,” explained Zoltán Karácsonyi, the professional coordinator of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic.

The management of the Clinical Center was informed about the advantages of using modern equipment on Monday as part of a presidential visit.
