The Debrecen Trade Festival at Dósa Nádor Square will be held again on May 17, 2025. Now in its fourth edition, the event will feature sports programs and health screenings for visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dósa nádor Square.

Once again, Debrecen’s educational and training offerings will be showcased as part of a lively family and sports day. Attendees can learn about vocational training opportunities, internships and job openings at various companies, university education options, and free adult training programs. The outdoor event, organised by the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre (DSZC), will bring more than 50 exhibitors, stage performances, interactive activities, and numerous tools and experiments to try out.

The festival’s main mission is to support career guidance for young people in the region, providing a roadmap to education and careers with the involvement of corporate partners.

In 2025, the event’s key partner will be the “Move, Debrecen!” initiative. As part of this collaboration, the stage will host multiple Zumba and aerobics performances throughout the day, inviting families and students to join. Spread across Dósa nádor Square, visitors can also play on teqball tables, table tennis setups, and foosball tables. A special feature of the event is the free health screenings available all day at the stand of the Debrecen Primary Care and Health Development Institute (Daefi). This year’s slogan for the festival is “Move, Connect, Build Your Career with Us!”

At the press event, Deputy Mayor Dr. Diána Széles emphasised DSZC’s vital role in the city. She pointed out that today’s youth grow up in a noisy media landscape, making it hard to decide what truly fulfils their lives. “Our role is to guide them, which the Centre has done. The festival bridges professions, companies and the talent of the future. Today, it is challenging for parents to give their children career advice because the technological environment and the challenges facing workers are changing so rapidly that often even parents are unaware of the nature of a modern profession. They need to be as informed as their children. This event will give them first-hand information from experts. The “Move Debrecen!” movement will be present at this event to raise awareness among young people about taking their health seriously. They will be offering guidance, useful information and presenting health promotion programmes, hoping to meet many people they have not yet been able to reach,” she said.

At the festival, Daefi professionals will offer health screenings for the public. Daefi director Dr. Csaba Papp stressed the importance of familiarising parents and children with available trades, as training fields constantly evolve. The festival provides a unique opportunity to see a broad spectrum of educational paths, as schools from various sectors will be represented, including public, church, vocational, and military institutions. It is equally crucial for current vocational students to explore higher education and retraining options. In recent years, DSZC has partnered with Daefi to establish three dental care locations, reinforcing the centre’s commitment to quality education and student healthcare services.

DSZC General Director Sándor Szilágyi described how the festival has grown into a family day event. Its main goal is to introduce career opportunities and collaborations with businesses and organisations to help primary school students choose their careers. The festival also caters to adults seeking information on reskilling and further education. Whether undecided or already engaged in vocational training, visitors can discover additional paths. Vocational education is increasingly appealing, especially with success stories like Luca Pusztai, a talented young chef from the Debrecen SZC Trade and Hospitality Technical School. She won first place at the National Vocational Study Competition, and her story showcases how talent and corporate cooperation intertwine. The student prepared for the competition and festival with the Divinus Hotel ***** Superior chef, preparing delicious specialities.
