“Future Workshop”:The implementation of the Civaqua program continues
At the Future of Debrecen event, committed supporters of green causes, water and ecological experts gave those interested an overview of the first, already completed part of Civaqua, and the next phase, which is in the preparation phase.
The Civaqua program represents a long-term solution for the water supply of Debrecen and its surroundings, the first phase of which has already brought water from the River Tisza to the city. Thanks to this, among other things, a reservoir is flowing at Vezér Street, and the Tócó Stream has become abundant and full of life.
“The first phase has brought water replenishment to the Tócó Stream. This is very well implemented in its upper section, where it still has a close connection with natural systems: those small marsh meadows received water, their wildlife was renewed, and in the watercourse of the Tócó Stream itself—since it has a living water connection all the way to the River Tisza—various fish species typical of small watercourses appeared,” said ecologist Csaba Aradi.
After the first phase of Civaqua, preparatory work for the second phase is already underway, as was heard at the “Future Workshop” (JövőMűhely) event on Wednesday. Regarding the continuation of the ecological development, Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs emphasized that this is one of the most important projects of the city. “During the preparation of the Green Codex, we asked the people of Debrecen, and and the most votes were cast in favor of continuing with Civaqua and taking the water to the Gtreat Forest. One of the most important conditions for our ability to adapt to climate change is that this program continues,” emphasized the Deputy Mayor. The second phase of the Civaqua program, expected to be completed by 2029, will not only solve the problem of water replenishment in the Great Forest. The large-scale development will also revitalize the Erdőspuszta reservoirs around the city.
