The public lighting system will be renewed in more streets in Debrecen
The Municipality of Debrecen continues to modernize the public lighting network, local government representative Erzsébet Katona announced on her Facebook page.
In the eighth phase, controllable LED technology light fixtures will be installed, among others, on Vezér, Szabó Kálmán, Károli Gáspár, Szabó Lőrinc, and Lahner streets, as well as on Monostorpályi Road and Bem Square.
The works began on August 27 from the junction of Károli Gáspár and Vezér streets in the direction of Böszörményi Road.
During the implementation, which is expected to last until the end of October, depending on the weather, 542 light fixtures will be replaced on public lighting poles.
In addition to the minimum possible restrictions on vehicles driving on the city’s public roads, the works will be carried out outside the morning and afternoon peak periods.
In Phase VIII of the public lighting modernization, the installed power of the replaced public lighting fixtures will be reduced by 29 kW, which will result in an annual power saving of 116,000 kWh, and the amount of carbon dioxide emitted will be reduced by nearly 25 tons.
“In the seven phases completed so far, 5,158 old, outdated public lighting fixtures on public roads and public areas have been replaced with modern, energy-saving fixtures, which has reduced the total power of the fixtures by nearly 417 kW compared to the total power of approximately 2,084 kW at the beginning of the modernization; thus, this will result in a reduction in consumption of 1.67 million kWh per year, and the amount of carbon dioxide emitted will be reduced by 367 tons,” writes the representative. Katona Erzsébet adds that the energy savings correspond to the annual consumption of approximately 670 average family homes, taking into account the average electricity consumption of 2500 kWh/year.
