From mid-May, new express trains will be added to the Friday and Sunday services between the capital and Pécs, Budapest and Debrecen-Nyíregyháza-Záhony and Budapest-Miskolc-Kazincbarcika. Pécs is directly connected to the capital by the Tenkes express, Kazincbarcika by the Sajó express, and Debrecen, Nyíregyháza and Záhony by the new Campus express.

Thanks to Romania’s accession to the Schengen area from May onwards, the stopping time of several international trains will be reduced on the Debrecen-Nyírábrány and Békéscsaba-Kötegyán-Nagyszalonta lines.

On the latter line, between Nagyszalonta and Hungary, 7 pairs of trains per day will make travel easier and more flexible.

Due  to the enlargement of the Schengen area, border controls have been abolished at the border stations with Romania, and following negotiations between MÁV and the Romanian railway company CFR Călători, waiting times on the Debrecen-Nyírábrány and Békéscsaba-Kötegyán-Nagyszalonta lines will be reduced by 10-30 minutes, only the necessary border traffic and technological times remain. The timetables of, for example, the Corona InterCity and the Szamos EuroCity will be changed accordingly, and train services between Békéscsaba, Gyula and Nagyszalonta will be increased.

In the online timetable search engines (MÁV+ and MÁV applications, EMMA, jegy.mav.hu), passengers can now plan their journey based on the modified timetable, with the stations and the day of travel set accordingly.

Details of the most important changes can be found here.
