The renovation of the stairs of the Petőfi Square underpass in Debrecen has begun
The Petőfi Square underpass in Debrecen is jointly owned by the city government and the Hungarian State. The local government has started the reconstruction of the stairs leading to the underpass in the area it owns.
The works cover the five staircases owned by the local government that lead down to the underpass from the Petőfi Square park, along with their resting area, and the staircase descending further into the underpass. During the construction, the stairs and front panels of the aforementioned staircases, as well as the accompanying plinths, will be dismantled.
The cover panels of the triangular structures between the stairs will be examined separately: the elements in good condition will be retained, and those in poor condition will be replaced with the same material as the existing ones.
New, aesthetic concrete stairs with a roughened surface will be built in place of the old structures. The restoration and painting of the plinths are also part of the investment. The entire resting area will receive a new, aesthetic concrete covering.
The construction will take 4-6 weeks in total, but the work can only be carried out in suitable weather conditions. There will be a few days during the schedule when the underpass will be completely closed, but the underpass will be continuously usable during the work.
The local government is negotiating to renovate additional state-owned staircase sections.
