The Józsa Senior Citizens’ Club also celebrated the International Day of Older People
A program entitled “From a pure heart, with love” („Tiszta szívből, szeretettel”) was organized in Józsa on the occasion of the month of the elderly on October 9, 2025. The residents of the district were greeted with songs, music, and prose performances. The elderly are active in Józsa, and there are two clubs that regularly organize community programs.
Even the youngest greeted the elderly on Thursday afternoon in the Józsa community house. Residents in the district look out for each other. Pensioners also meet regularly. October 1 is the International Day of Older People, and throughout the month in Hungary, many settlements pay tribute to the elderly with events and cultural programs. In her welcoming speech at the Józsa event, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles said that taking care of the elderly is not only important at this time. In Debrecen, a lot is being done to encourage as many senior citizens as possible to remain active.
“We want to ensure that the elderly are not confined to four walls, but rather that they are in a community, cheerful and happy. All of this can be experienced together regularly in a community house. I consider regularity very important, the opportunity to gather every day and create a community, because in community we will certainly be healthier and happier,” she said.
There are also two senior citizens’ clubs in Józsa. According to Róbert Juráskó, the local government representative of the district, the members are very active; they regularly participate in community programs. This is also thanks to which more and more people are choosing Józsán as their home.
“Józsa is a very lovable little town. We have already outgrown it, since it used to be a village. The population now ranges between 13,000 and 15,000, with many members of the “ancient” Józsa population and many people coming from Debrecen or other settlements. Józsa is a little jewel box, because both its natural features and the proximity to Debrecen are very decisive in Józsán’s life,” he said.
In October, every district of Debrecen welcomes senior citizens with programs.
