The University of Debrecen ranks among the leading institutions offering sports science education
According to László Balogh, Director of the Sports Science Coordination Institute, the most important thing is not the result, but the fact that students and instructors from different training institutions were able to meet and exchange professional and scientific ideas in addition to the competitions featuring NB I and national team athletes.
Hungary’s oldest sectoral higher education sports competition was held in Debrecen on October 20-21. At the 70th Sports Students’ Sports Meeting (SHS), eight universities where sports science and physical culture training is conducted were represented in six sports disciplines and seven locations.
The host university won the overall institutional points competition and the accompanying travel cup in the competitions involving the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, ELTE Savaria University Center, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, Nyíregyháza University, Szeged University, Pécs University, Miskolc University and the host University of Debrecen, unideb.hu reported.
László Balogh, director of the institute, said that it was an honor to organize an event that dates back to great traditions, all the more so because he himself participated in the SHS as an athlete in 1995.
“Who would have thought then that thirty years later in Debrecen, where the Sports Science Coordination Institute is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, we would succeed in hosting institutions that have been providing sports training for decades. However, the most important thing was not the result, but the fact that students and instructors from the various training institutions could meet and exchange professional and scientific ideas alongside competitions featuring NB I and national team athletes. Last but not least, those who had not been to Debrecen could get to know the enviable sports ecosystem of our university,” stated László Balogh.
On the first day of the Sports Meeting of Sports Students, the Sports Science Committee of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference and the Professional College of Physical Education and Sports Science also met in Debrecen. László Balogh, as the president of the former organization, mentioned that significant progress was made at the meeting in the short-cycle physical education teacher training and the renewal of the criteria system for university professors in sports science. Experts from the University of Debrecen will play an important role in both matters.
László Balogh also drew attention to the fact that they are trying to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the STKI (Sports Science Coordination Institute) in a dignified manner. As part of this, in November our university will again participate in the Sport Forum Hungary event in Budapest, at the Groupama Arena, with an exhibition, three lectures, and a roundtable discussion. Another important event for the Debrecen sports science training area—which started 15 years ago at the Faculty of Economics and Business, organized by Éva Bácsné Bába, Deputy Dean—will be the national Movement Biology Conference, which looks back on great traditions.
