During the works, which will last until 6 July, passengers can find out about the current tram services on DKV’s online platform.
In order to ensure safe tram traffic and the smooth operation of Line 1, DKV Zrt. will carry out track replacement works at 6 locations this year: at Kálvin Square, Péterfia Street, Pallagi Street, and Nagyerdei körút, and track control works will be carried out at four additional sections of track: at Péterfia Street, Bem Square, Simonyi Street, and Pallagi Street.
The renovation will be carried out in two phases this summer. As part of the project, specialists will be working outside normal operating hours between 2 and 22 June.
“The work will start after 6.00 p.m., without disrupting public transport. The actual work will start after the closure, and the next day public transport vehicles will be able to travel without interruption from the morning onwards,” CEO of DKV Zrt. Szabolcs Tóth said.
The second phase is the track replacement in Kálvin Square. Track renewal work will be carried out on this section between 23 June and 6 July, after the end of the school term and before the start of the Campus Festival.
During the works, trams will run in two phases. Trams 1 and 2 will not carry passengers between Kossuth Square and Kálvin Square, so there will be transfers on the whole line.
“Trams will run in two phases. The first section is the so-called inner circle, the Grand Station–Kossuth Square–Grand Station section. There, practically two trams will run back and forth every 10 minutes. These 10 minutes will practically be 10 minutes on weekdays and holidays, from the start of operation to the end of operation,“ Traffic director of DKV Zrt. István Miklós explained.
The trams will be available at the Kossuth Square and Városháza stops on the way to and from the station. Motorists can expect speed restrictions at the renovation sites. DKV is using some HUF 163 million of its own funds to carry out the summer track renewal.
