The University of Debrecen (UD) was placed 574th among over 5500 institutions by Quacquarelli Symonds, and it was ranked 327th by Round University Rankings.

Out of 5,663 higher education institutions in 106 countries, 1,500 were featured in the 2025 QS World University Rankings list. The University of Debrecen secured the 574th spot, placing it in the top 3 among Hungarian higher education institutions. Similar to previous years, UD excelled in the percentage of international students, ranking 209th globally in this category. The university, positioned at 464th place, significantly enhanced its standing in the education quality metric. Additionally, this year, the university climbed to the 505th position in academic assessment.

Regarding the outcome, rector Zoltán Szilvássy mentioned that a working committee was established at the university seven years prior to enhance the university’s profile in the international scientific community.

“The result of a conscious process and years of serious work is today’s highly visible position at the international level, which we expect to improve further. Traditionally, our publication activity is the strongest in the fields of medicine and health sciences, but at the same time, there is visible progress in education and research in agricultural and economic sciences, as well as technical and natural sciences. The scientific objectives of the institution are served by the strengthening of the research infrastructure with the recently handed-over Manufacturing-Research-Teaching Center and the Pilot Laboratory,” Rector Zoltán Szilvássy said.

“We are proud of our international students, and we are very happy that the University of  Debrecen is the best institution in Hungary for international research, ” Director of the Coordinating Center for International Education of the University of Debrecen Attila Jenei told hirek.unideb.hu.

MIT, the US-based partner of the University of Debrecen, has remained the top institution for 13 consecutive years, followed by Imperial College London, Oxford University, and Harvard University.
