Wizz Air has announced excellent news for Debrecen residents
Wizz Air will restart three popular international routes — to Tel Aviv, Eindhoven, and Istanbul — beginning in spring 2026. There will be four Wizz Air flights from Debrecen to London instead of three.
From March 31, 2026, the economic and cultural center of Israel, Tel Aviv, will be accessible again, with Wizz Air flying there three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
From May 2, flights to Eindhoven will resume, with Wizz Air flying to the airport of the Dutch city twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The third return flight is to Istanbul: from June, the low-cost airline will fly to Turkey’s most populous city three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Mayor László Papp commented on the news on his Facebook page, also announcing that from April 5, there will be four Wizz Air flights from Debrecen to London instead of three.
As the city manager says in the video, when expanding flights, it is always a consideration to bring flights to Debrecen that are viable, represent a tourist destination for the people of Debrecen, and at the same time put Debrecen on the tourist map, as inbound tourism is also extremely important.
The mayor adds that developing the airport is very important; the design of the new small runway may be completed next year, after which construction can begin. In addition, the navigation system will be modernized, all of which could help enable new flights to depart from Debrecen.
Deputy mayors Diána Széles and Lajos Barcsa also welcomed the announcement with joy. Diána Széles, who is also responsible for tourism development, pointed out that many tourists used to come to Debrecen with this flight, so it can now generate traffic again for Debrecen accommodation and service providers.
According to Lajos Barcsa, who is also responsible for tasks related to the management of the municipality, this agreement is important from a business perspective as well: flights to Eindhoven will restart, making it possible to reach the Benelux countries and North Rhine‑Westphalia, that is, the northwestern part of Germany, as well as Istanbul, Turkey’s most important city, from where passengers can continue their journeys eastward with transfers.
Currently, flights operate from Debrecen to London with Wizz Air and to Munich with Lufthansa.
It has already been confirmed that from next year Wizz Air will resume flights to Cyprus, with the route appearing in the 2026 schedule after the winter break. According to this, it will start again on April 2, and unlike this year, there will be three flights a week instead of two, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. In line with the schedule, the last plane will take off on October 24, after which it will go on winter break again.
It is also good news that there have been favorable changes in the parking system at Debrecen Airport, as reported earlier.
Wizz Air also recently announced that it will expand its Budapest base with a new, eighteenth aircraft, thus reinforcing its commitment to Hungary.
