Debrecen Schools Collect Over 500 Charity Packages

For another year, schools in the Debrecen School District Center came together to make Christmas brighter for families in need with their generous donations. The Hungarian Reformed Charity Service will deliver the packages to recipients before year’s end.

On December 12, 2025, students of the Kós Károly Secondary School of Arts, Technical School, and Dormitory created a special installation from the collected gift boxes. Thirty-two school communities in the Debrecen School District joined the fundraising campaign. Through the cooperation of children, parents, and teachers, they successfully filled more than 550 boxes with non‑perishable food.

According to László Türk, Director of the Debrecen School District Center, this initiative helps make the holidays brighter for those in need. He highlighted that an important part of education is teaching students that the joy of giving surpasses that of receiving.

The Debrecen Charity Board expressed its gratitude with a certificate of appreciation and an angel ornament for the dedicated work the district has been selflessly carrying out for years to support those in need. Edit Bódor, President of the Debrecen Charity Board, emphasized that this year’s encounters should become part of everyday life and remain as small memories to sustain people during harder days. She noted that while we often rush past such moments, these experiences are truly important and deeply needed.

The Hungarian Reformed Charity Service will deliver the donation‑filled boxes to those in need in Debrecen and its surroundings, as well as in Transcarpathia and Transylvania.

Pastor István Oláh, representing the Hungarian Reformed Charity Service, pointed out that reaching out to one another during the holiday and sharing the message—within families and beyond—that being together in love is best already contributes to making the world a better place.

Deputy Mayor Diána Széles highlighted that the charity board was established ten years ago—as a unique initiative nationwide. She highlighted that genuine care is less about the gifts we offer and more about noticing one another. Helping those in need requires consistent connection with people living in difficult situations.

The school district’s institutional leaders and the students of the art secondary schools jointly loaded the charity service’s vehicles with more than 550 school donation packages.
