Debrecen Medgyessy High School student takes his development to Taiwan

Debrecen-based Dániel Czapák is preparing for one of the world’s most prestigious scientific competitions, with 250 projects and more than 350 students from over thirty countries. Award winners of the National Science and Innovation Olympiad were invited to travel to Taiwan with their finalist 2025 projects. From all of Hungary, only two projects made it to the competition: one by Dániel and the other by a young participant from Budapest.

For the second year now, Dániel has been developing a maintenance tool specialized for production lines that predicts when a motor is about to fail. The idea for the development came to him with the help of mentors. He wanted to create a solution that could address a frequent problem affecting many people. “The starting point was that revenue loss due to maintenance on production lines represents a major problem,” he added.

Dániel is a student in the six-year program at Medgyessy High School. “I first got the opportunity in eighth grade from my mentor teacher, Dr. Viktória Bacsó Borbélyné, who is now the Managing Director of the Agóra Science Experience Center,” he recalled. As mentioned, he has many supporters, and in addition to his mentors he also expressed his gratitude to his family and his coach.

In Taiwan, in addition to the competition, the participants will also take part in a cultural tour. Over three competition days, they must present their projects to the jury in English. Dániel also received a scholarship from the Foundation for Talented Young People of Debrecen in August, and he plans to use this funding to further develop his new project this year. He has also taken part in, among other things, the activities of Future of Debrecen, and says that alongside a career as an innovator and researcher, he is also interested in communication and marketing, which he would like to combine into a single profession in the future. “The future lies within us young people and in our willingness to take action,” he stated.
