Debrecen Vocational Training Center Highlights the Growing Role of Artificial Intelligence

Four institutions of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) have made it into the TOP 100 Technical School ranking. At the top of the list is the Mechwart András Technical School, where students study professions in mechanical engineering, information technology and telecommunications, as well as specialized machine and vehicle manufacturing. The school now has nearly 1,200 students. “For decades, almost centuries, Mechwart has always been at the forefront of Hungarian education, and from now on it is an expectation that it should remain so,” Sándor Szilágyi, Director General of DSZC, emphasized.

In addition to achievements, goals were also discussed at the DSZC’s year-opening press conference. This year, career weeks and summer camps will again be organized, and work is also underway to establish a vocational support service activity. The use of artificial intelligence and the equal opportunity program will come to the forefront. Sixty teachers and four hundred students may take part in study trips abroad, and students will also compete in international academic competitions.

“The next program, which will appear in a more structured form in 2026 than before – although it has already had great significance – is the mental support and health development program. ‘Well-being at school, strength in the community’ is the slogan it carries,” Chancellor Zsolt Tirpák emphasized.

More than twenty thousand jobs have been created in Debrecen, and the aim is to fill these positions with young people from the city or the surrounding area, as stated by Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa. The Deputy Mayor stressed that foreign labor has a role in the city only for a short, fixed period, while the future lies with properly qualified local professionals.” It can be said about the Debrecen Vocational Training Center that it not only operates schools, but is also an active shaper of the city’s economic ecosystem, connecting the ambitions of young people with the real needs of the labor market,” he said.

The DSZC’s training portfolio is closely aligned with the needs of the local economy, and more than 2,000 young people participate in dual training programs in a corporate environment.
