Nominations Now Open for the Debrecen Awards 2026
In keeping with tradition and pursuant to Municipal Decree No. 24/2020 (VIII. 27.), the General Assembly of the Municipality of Debrecen confers the titles of Honorary Citizen of Debrecen, the Pro Urbe Award, and the Patron Award each year on April 11, the Day of the City.
The honorary title Honorary Citizen of the City of Debrecen is the highest distinction a citizen may receive. It may be awarded in recognition of an outstanding life’s work that has rendered imperishable merits in the material, intellectual, and moral enrichment and development of the city and its citizens, and that has strengthened the city’s prestige.
The Pro Urbe Award of the City of Debrecen may be granted in recognition of activities carried out over several decades that contribute to the city’s development and good reputation, serve the benefit of the local community, and merit public esteem.
The Patron of the City of Debrecen Award may be granted in recognition of significant financial support provided without compensation, serving the city’s growth and development.
Proposals for the conferral of municipal awards may be submitted by natural persons with a registered residence in Debrecen at the time of nomination, as well as by civil organizations, churches, business associations, scientific institutes, institutions operating in Debrecen, and leaders of communities functioning within such institutions.
The deadline for the submission of proposals for the awards is February 10, 2026.
The mandatory nomination form required for submission can be obtained at the reception desk of the New City Hall (11 Kálvin Square) or downloaded from the city’s website where the list of previous award recipients is also available.
Proposals should be addressed to the Mayor of the City and submitted to the Cultural Department of the Mayor’s Office, either by post (New City Hall, 4026 Debrecen, 11 Kálvin Square) or in person.
