One in Three Eligible Debrecen Residents Already Signed Up for Free Parking

So far, around 6,500 residents of Debrecen have registered for free residential parking for the new year. Two important deadlines related to the parking system are approaching as annual passes purchased for 2025 are valid until January 15, while registrations approved for free residential parking are valid until February 28.

Drivers are advised to pay attention so they do not miss the important deadlines of the parking system. Annual passes purchased in the previous year are valid until January 15, while Green Zone parking passes bought for the second half of the year are valid until the last day of the month.

Registrations approved for free residential parking and registrations for electric vehicles registered after August 1, 2025 are both valid until February 28.

“I think people are much better prepared than last year, as they have become familiar with our system. As of today, approximately 6,500 registrations have already been completed. We expect 21,000, and I believe that over the course of the next month and a half, residents of Debrecen will nicely make up the shortfall,” said András Fodor, Managing Director of DV Parking.

The new parking regulations came into effect last August to reduce the overload of the city’s parking spaces during the day and to help residents of Debrecen park closer to their place of residence. Another consideration was to promote greater use of local and regional public transportation. Per address, two passenger cars or two motorcycles, or one car and one motorcycle may be registered. According to experience, the new parking system has performed well in recent months.

“Overall, it can be said that now it is possible to find a free parking space even during the day, and in the evening, when residents return home, the opportunity to park in front of their own property has now become a reality,” said Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa.

DV Parking also announced on Wednesday that a more modern and transparent interface now awaits visitors to their website. The aim of the development was to provide clearer and more efficient support for customers during administrative procedures.

The artificial intelligence–based chatbot function primarily helps answer simpler questions. Their staff continuously expand the chatbot’s knowledge base based on feedback and experiences received from customers.

The development will continue in the future as well: in the coming period, the website will be expanded with additional features so that every visitor can easily find the parking-related information relevant to them.
