Csokonai National TheatreThe 16th Deszka Festival will be hosted by the Csokonai National Theatre between February 24 and March 1, 2026, reaffirming its position as one of the most important national and cross-border showcases of contemporary Hungarian drama. The week-long festival presents a carefully curated selection of the latest Hungarian-language theatre productions premiered up to September 2025, bringing together repertory theatres, independent companies, and Hungarian theatres beyond Hungary’s borders on equal footing.
Over six days, the festival offers 18 performances for adult, youth, and child audiences alike. The program features productions by leading Hungarian ensembles, including Katona József Theatre, Miskolc National Theatre, Szkéné Theatre, 6SZÍN, Dante Casino, and Exit Generation, alongside cross-border institutions such as the Hungarian State Theatre of Cluj and the Kosztolányi Dezső Theatre of Subotica.
Young audiences are engaged with through the dedicated görDESZKA program, while the festival’s depth is further enriched by daily discussions, book launches, audience meetings, and concerts. With strong involvement from university students and emerging artists, the DESZKA Festival remains a vibrant meeting point for generations, genres, and creative perspectives in Debrecen.
