New Animal Protection Programs Are Starting in Debrecen
Submitted to the nationwide “Our Shared Cause: Animal Protection” Foundation to support the implementation of programs promoting animal protection and responsible pet ownership, the local government’s application has been accepted by the foundation, as revealed in the proposal submitted to the city council by Mayor László Papp.
The city will receive ten million forints, and the matter has been brought before the city council as, under the relevant law, the acceptance of foundation funds must be decided by the representative body.
The funds will be spent on three purposes; first, vaccination, spaying/neutering, and microchipping campaigns; second, the “Together for Animals” Animal Protection Family Day; and third, an educational and awareness-raising program called “Responsibility for Animals,” which will be held for children at Zoo Debrecen.
The municipality plans to implement all three major program components with the involvement of local animal welfare associations. The city council will make its decision at its meeting next week.
