Certified Artificial Intelligence Program Now Available in English in Debrecen
Artificial intelligence already has a significant impact on everyday life and is present everywhere. The spread of the technology permeates all fields of science, which is why IT education must also remain up to date in order to convey the latest knowledge, as stated on the university’s website.
At the University of Debrecen, artificial intelligence and related educational development and research have been a key focus for years. For several years now, a master’s program in data science—also centered on artificial intelligence—has been available; however, with the new four-semester MSc, students can acquire more specialized professional knowledge, gain a deeper and more detailed understanding of the relationship between computer science and AI, and apply their knowledge across numerous fields.
“The University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Informatics was the first in the country to launch a program in the field of artificial intelligence; this was the data science MSc. We recognized the importance of the technology early on and that the world is clearly moving in this direction. This program addressed the topic in a more general sense and was not aimed exclusively at computer scientists. Currently, AI-focused master’s programs are launching simultaneously across the country, and we are also striving to ride these waves by developing an existing program while retaining the data science MSc. In this way, we aim to ensure that artificial intelligence is present in an even stronger form within the faculty’s educational portfolio,” said Dean András Hajdu.
He emphasized that there is enormous interest in the field, not only within the Faculty of Informatics but across the entire university, which also justified making a master’s program available that is capable of covering almost every discipline, thus the knowledge acquired, going beyond even a “traditional” computer science qualification, can stand its ground in all areas of life.
“We are launching the master’s program specifically for those who approach AI primarily with a developer’s mindset; we recommend it to abstract, innovative thinkers who are computer scientists in the traditional sense. Since the new program will be available from September, in the period ahead we are focusing on the data science MSc and are striving to more clearly differentiate the two programs. We have all the necessary tools and infrastructure for the artificial intelligence engineering master’s program; everything at the faculty meets international standards and is outstanding at the national level,” he added.
During the program, which is available in both English and Hungarian, future professionals will become familiar with the data analysis, mathematical, statistical, and ethical concepts required for innovative, research-oriented, design, and development-level practice in the field, which they can particularly apply in areas such as machine learning, generative models, multi-agent systems, cognition, and human cooperation, and which lay the foundation for lifelong learning and knowledge adaptation in changing industrial environments.
Applicants can find further details about the new master’s program in the supplementary section of the online admissions guide published on Thursday, and applications can now be submitted until February 15.
