Plans Aim to Make the Vezér Street Reservoir Even More Appealing for Visitors
As announced by Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa on Facebook, consultations have begun with the contractor and with city councillor Erzsébet Katona regarding the construction of a new hospitality venue at the Vezér Street Reservoir.
Benches had already been installed and a playground had also been built next to the water reservoir. In the video shared by Lajos Barcsa, the deputy mayor explained that they want to develop this location because it provides an opportunity for people living in the area to relax and unwind. “This is an important step toward making this popular resting place even more attractive for the residents of Debrecen,” he said.
The video also revealed that the hospitality venue will primarily offer street food–style dishes. Erzsébet Katona wrote that “the Vezér Street water reservoir is not merely a technical facility: it is the cornerstone of a community and well-being space where families, people looking to exercise, and those seeking relaxation can all feel at home.”
“The water of the River Tisza no longer serves only agriculture and nature conservation in our city, but directly our everyday recreation as well,” the councillor stated. As for what this means in practice, she explained that it involves the creation of new aquatic habitats and a recreational zone that serves physical and mental rejuvenation.
