Pedestrians Can Now Use the Renovated Bridge Over Lake Békás
From spring to autumn, the Great Forest Park and the area around Lake Békás host numerous open-air cultural events.
The Great Forest Park is one of the city’s most popular community spaces, visited by many thousands every week — both residents of Debrecen and visiting tourists alike. The pier is also heavily used throughout the year, and over the course of a decade this has inevitably left its mark.
The wooden decking of the pedestrian bridge had deteriorated so badly in the damp, humid environment that a complete replacement became necessary. During the renovation, the structure of the pier was cleaned, and the pedestrian bridge received a much more durable natural surface than before.
Mayor László Papp reported on the development in a video published on his social media page. As he put it, with the arrival of spring another investment affecting the Great Forest area has been completed. “Spring is here, the bridge is ready — the reconstruction of the Lake Békás bridge has been completed,” he said.
