The Greek Catholic Cathedral Cross Restored to Its Original Position
Archbishop-Metropolitan Fülöp Kocsis climbed the 40-metre-high tower himself. A time capsule was placed at the base of the cross, containing documents that will inform future generations about the renovation of the Attila Square Cathedral and the life of the congregation.
The cross of the Attila Square Cathedral was removed last autumn. Since then it has been restored so that it could be returned to the building. Notes about the renovation of the Greek Catholic church, as well as a greeting message from the mayor, were also placed in the time capsule, which will likewise be installed in the tower.
The renovation of the cathedral building began in the autumn of 2023. Work has continued without interruption since then. Among the major denominations, every church in the city has already been renewed, and now the Greek Catholic cathedral is also regaining its former splendour. “This building is undergoing a beautiful renewal both inside and out, sending a message to the future that faith, religion and Christianity are needed. Those who are taking part in this programme today and can see with their own eyes how the Attila Square Cathedral is being renewed will, I am sure, also be spiritually strengthened by the wonderful work they witness,” said Mayor László Papp.
