Krones Charity Run to Support Foundation for Children with Leukemia This Year
A record 836 runners laced up their trainers at last year’s Krones Charity Run, organised by Krones Hungary Kft. The event was first held in 2022, and this year marks the fifth Krones Charity Run. Participants can complete distances of 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 kilometres on 9 May in the southern industrial park. The organisers are once again expecting significant interest; according to Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa, the steadily growing enthusiasm for running among Debrecen residents is also thanks to infrastructure developments.
“Our running tracks are becoming increasingly accessible in more and more districts. Most recently, we inaugurated a running circuit in Debrecen-Józsa. And anyone who gives running a try – as it is a very accessible sport, requiring nothing more than a pair of shoes to get started – has already done something for their health,” said Lajos Barcsa.
For years, the proceeds from entry fees have been used for charitable purposes, and Krones Hungary Kft. also doubles this amount. At the 2024 event, HUF 3.3 million was raised for the Együtt Ádin Kezét Fogva Foundation, while in 2025 the Mentsük meg Benit Foundation received support amounting to HUF 4.5 million. This year’s beneficiary was selected in an unusual way.
“Krones Charity Run is now more than just a running race; it is becoming a community cause. This time, we also called on the community to help by first nominating candidates and then jointly selecting the beneficiary from among them,” explained Zoltán Kocsis, Managing Director of Krones Hungary Kft.
The organisation that received the most votes was the Foundation for Children with Leukemia, which has been actively contributing to improving the recovery chances and quality of life of children with leukaemia and cancer for more than 35 years.
Judit Kiss Göncziné, coordinator of the foundation, expressed her gratitude for the support and added that there are many areas where the donation can be put to good use. “We consider it very important to develop the department’s infrastructure, to purchase equipment that can aid children’s recovery, and to support the further training of doctors and nurses as well, so the possibilities are truly endless,” she said.
Participants can register for the race via the StafétApp mobile application.
