University Institute of Psychology Renovated Inside and Out

With insulated doors and windows, a heat pump heating system, energy-efficient automated lighting, and aesthetically pleasing, accessible interior spaces, this comprehensive investment has transformed the home of the University of Debrecen’s Institute of Psychology into a truly 21st-century centre for education and research.

“A modern, more sustainable and inspiring space that represents not only walls and rooms, but opportunity – the opportunity for research, for learning, and for students and lecturers to think together about the future,” highlighted György Kossa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen.

Seven hundred students study at the Institute of Psychology, whose range of programmes is among the most popular within the Faculty of Humanities at the university.

“A very large number of students apply, competition to gain admission is extremely strong, even for fee-paying courses, and a sports mental trainer programme will also be launched this year as a related field,” emphasised Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen.

At the handover ceremony of the renovated building, Mayor László Papp praised the cooperation between the university and the city, as well as the social importance of the work carried out by psychology professionals.

“They contribute to creating more balanced citizens, more stable families and stronger communities in our city and society. Therefore, psychology is not merely an academic discipline, but one of the key pillars of social well-being,” underlined Mayor László Papp.

The Institute of Psychology was renovated at a cost of HUF 725 million as part of a HUF 5,5 billion modernisation programme affecting several university buildings and infrastructure.
