Industry Day Showcases Robotics and Industrial Innovation at University of Debrecen
Robotics was among the central themes at the conference titled Industry Day in Debrecen. At the professional exhibition, visitors could explore the activities, industrial innovations and employment opportunities of more than twenty companies.
Foreign companies that have established operations in Debrecen were also represented at the event. Ádám Kovács, Head of Public Relations at EVE Power, highlighted that many applicants are young, and their company is building a dynamic, youthful team in Debrecen. “Our presence serves a dual purpose: on the one hand, we want to present our battery industry investment and our presence in Hungary to a professional audience; on the other hand, we aim to attract the attention of engineering students who can successfully join our recruitment programme,” he emphasised.
In recent years, significant industrialisation processes have taken place in Debrecen. The relationship between the university, industry, and the city has developed in a distinctive way, as explained by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy. “The University of Debrecen is currently the only university in Hungary that has a certified industrial park, which includes production units and development units, and this activity is now gradually expanding beyond production towards commerce as well,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa described Debrecen as a city of opportunities. As he noted, the fastest-growing sector in the city over the past 10 years has been the automotive and machinery industry, closely followed by tourism and hospitality. Meanwhile, Debrecen’s economy has grown by nearly two and a half times. “More than 21,000 new jobs have been created in the city, ensuring that talented graduates can choose from a range of employment opportunities. The trend has therefore reversed: it is no longer the case that employees must struggle to find a job, but rather that if a young person has chosen a good field of study and obtained strong qualifications, employers will in fact compete for them,” he said.
At the Industry Day conference, presentations were also held on artificial intelligence and its practical applications, among other topics.
