Spectacular Video Shows Major Power Grid Development in Debrecen
To meet the growing energy demand driven by the development of industry in Debrecen and its surrounding area—including newly built large-scale factories—and to improve supply security, MAVIR Zrt. is constructing the Debrecen South 400/132 kV substation. In addition, a new 400 kV transmission line is being built from Józsa to the southern part of Debrecen. A video of the works was shared by the contractor, MVM XPert.
The company is progressing according to schedule to ensure that the substation is ready to be energised by 31 October 2026. The transmission line is expected to be completed by the end of September.
As noted, the double-circuit transmission line—with twin bundled conductors, one optical ground wire and one conventional earth wire—has a total route length of just under 29 kilometres.
A total of 83 pylons are being erected, with a combined weight of 1,479 tonnes. By mid-March, construction had reached the stage where the line crossed the M35 motorway. The crossing was carried out without requiring a full road closure.
Earlier footage was also shared of the substation construction in Debrecen’s Southern Economic Zone.
According to the project description, these developments will enable both residents of Hungary’s second largest city and businesses that create jobs to be served more safely and at a higher standard.
The project is financed from state funds through MAVIR Zrt. As part of broader economic development efforts and to enhance supply security in Debrecen, the government is providing a total of HUF 67.5 billion in development funding, which includes the construction of the new substation and the transmission line.
