University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Humanities Ranked Among World’s Top 550 Institutions
The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen has achieved significant success, as in the latest 2026 subject rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds, it has been placed among the world’s top 550 institutions in the Arts and Humanities category for the first time in its history, as reported by unideb.hu.
“This is an important recognition for the faculty, as inclusion in one of the most influential thematic rankings demonstrates that humanities education in Debrecen is globally visible and acknowledged. Entry into this elite group also confirms the quality of education and international recognition. The Faculty of Arts’ success aligns with the university’s improving performance in international rankings,” said Róbert Keményfi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, speaking to hirek.unideb.hu.
The QS 2026 subject rankings evaluated 21,000 programmes from more than 6,200 universities in 166 countries, of which 1,908 institutions ultimately made the list. Among the five broad academic fields assessed, the University of Debrecen is ranked in the 501–550 range in Arts and Humanities. The ranking is led by University of Oxford, Harvard University, and University of Cambridge.
In its evaluation, QS experts applied a complex set of criteria, including academic reputation, employer feedback, research citations and active participation in international research networks.
The University of Debrecen also holds a strong position in the overall QS World University Rankings: with its 563rd place, it remains firmly among Hungary’s leading higher education institutions, demonstrating competitiveness across multiple academic fields on the international education market.
