Sneak Preview: Debrecen Gourmet Festival 2026
From 12 to 14 June, Debrecen will host the region’s largest culinary and cultural event, Debrecen Gourmet Festival, for the 10th time. The anniversary edition comes with a special theme: in 2026, “Flavours of the World” takes centre stage, transforming the Great Forest into a true culinary journey around the globe for three days.
The festival will offer one of the most exciting programmes in its history, with the cuisines of ten different nations represented at the event. Every participating restaurant will present at least one dish that reflects the authentic flavours of the featured country or region.
Ten countries, ten culinary traditions, and countless experiences: the gastronomic heritage of the following nations will come to life at this year’s Gourmet Festival:
- Italy
- Mexico
- Transylvania
- France
- China
- Japan
- India
- Turkey
- USA
- Bavaria
Visitors will have the opportunity to sample flavours from around the world through the festival’s 24 restaurants and confectioneries. Alongside classic national dishes, the menu will feature modern interpretations, fine dining creations, street food specialities and innovative fusion cuisine.
The anniversary festival also coincides with the International Year of Pastoralists, and several programmes and dishes will reflect the ancient knowledge and traditions that have shaped food production and gastronomy around the world for centuries. Visitors will therefore have the opportunity to discover flavours and stories connected to pastoral culture.
Michelin Stars on the Great Forest Stage
This year, Debrecen Gourmet Festival once again brings some of the biggest names in the Hungarian and international culinary scene to Debrecen.
Among the live cooking demonstrations will be Ákos Sárközi, chef of the Michelin-starred Borkonyha and Textúra restaurants, as well as Roy, the two-Michelin-starred Dutch chef who will travel directly from the Netherlands to attend the event.
Another highlight will be the presentation by Michelin-starred chef Eszter Palágyi, who will create a dish inspired by the festival theme, bringing together the flavours of Hungary, Japan and the Middle East in a single bite.
The cooking demonstrations on the MasterGood Main Stage will be about far more than recipes. Visitors will gain insight into the thinking, inspirations and creative processes of some of the world’s leading chefs. The stage programmes will once again be hosted by András Jókuti, author of the Világevő blog and one of Hungary’s best-known gastronomic writers.
Container Kitchen: The World’s Flavours Up Close
One of the festival’s most popular venues, the Container Kitchen, will once again invite visitors on an exciting gastronomic journey. The programmes will be hosted by chef Viktor Segal, who will guide audiences through various world cuisines with his professional expertise and approachable style.
Visitors will be able to learn about the history of Italian coffee culture, the world of speciality coffee, the secrets of Korean kimchi, Japanese miso ramen, the diversity of Indian spices, and the traditional dishes associated with pastoral life.
A special feature of the venue is that football World Cup matches will be screened on the LED wall built into the container structure during the evening hours.
Music, Culture, and Community Experiences
Year after year, the Gourmet Festival demonstrates that gastronomy and culture complement one another perfectly.
This year’s anniversary line-up will feature performances by Vasovski Live, Petra Gubik, Josh and Betti, and Fruzsina Kovácsovics.
The festival will once again include its charming French-style market, where visitors can browse handcrafted products, books, unique gifts and creations by local artisans. At the BOOOK Publishing stand, visitors can attend book signings, with Eszter Palágyi appearing on Saturday and Gergely Vass on Sunday.
Those wishing to explore their creativity can participate in the Me Time Experience Workshop painting sessions, where they can create and take home their own artwork with professional guidance. Event illustrator Hajnalka Szabó will also be present, producing personalised portraits and illustrations for festival-goers.
The programme will be further enriched by the FunBox photo booth, featuring gourmet-themed props for memorable photographs, and Kádár Ferkó’s Photography Theatre on Saturday, recreating the atmosphere of traditional fairs with folk costumes and period scenery.
Children’s Gourmet Throughout the Weekend, with Special Family Programmes on Sunday
The third day of the festival will place a particular focus on families and children.
As part of the Children’s Gourmet programme, younger visitors can become involved in cooking activities themselves. They will have the opportunity to bake pizzas and pretzels, make dinosaur-shaped biscuits, prepare cordials and lemonade, and take part in interactive cooking sessions.
Families can enjoy a children’s concert by Fruzsina Kovácsovics on the main stage, while the Children’s Gourmet Corner will offer arts and crafts activities, traditional wooden games, dog-assisted storytelling therapy and a giant bubble show throughout the day.
The book grove organised in cooperation with BOOOK Publishing, family workshops and the atmosphere of the French-style market will further enhance the family-friendly character of Sunday’s programme.
Culinary Experiences and Charity
Purchasing a VIP ticket will also support a charitable cause this year.
An amount matching the proceeds generated from participation fees will be donated to the Angel Grove Foundation, which will use the funds to purchase new kitchen equipment, helping to make everyday life a little easier for young people with autism.
The anniversary edition of Debrecen Gourmet Festival celebrates the diversity of world gastronomy, quality hospitality, cultural experiences and community spirit all at once.
Over three days, visitors to the Great Forest will be able to enjoy Michelin-starred chefs, the cuisines of ten nations, hundreds of unique dishes, family programmes and musical performances.
